Observatory

Sitting or standing, sometimes just
Leaning, but all gathered around in various
Circles, some talking, some smoking, some
In their own little bubbles.

There are a few catching a nap, even one
Singing and one splattering paint onto
Canvas, while others watch, listen, and
Applaud the performers.

Me, I’m a watcher, smiling at a joke
I overhear, trying not to give into the
Smoking urge I have when I get
A whiff straight in my face.

Someone sits down next to me
And pulls out their pc, they’re getting
On Facebook and I chuckle quietly,
Realizing that they’re just like me.

People come and go, like a tide
During the day, and I welcome
The new faces and look forward
To the new entertainment.

Chasing Ghosts

Today I clamber after ghosts and much to my surprise, the figments become real life.

They toss and twist through light and dark the same. I watch wide-eyed, surprised to see these shapes of people so beautiful and free.

They smile at me and beckon me near wanting me to join their dance. I nod a yes and we begin but it all ends too soon.

Shadows fade, they’re gone again, nothing to remain.
